Happy Wednesday to everyone - hope your week is fantastic so far! :) Today I wanted to share something with you that happened in Indianapolis this past Saturday night...
The hubs and I were laying in bed watching TV when all of a sudden we heard and felt this enormous boom. The best way I can describe it is that it sounded like it was underground, it was a very deep sounding boom that I certainly haven't heard before. Dogs started barking, car alarms were going off, and people were looking around outside to see if they could put the pieces together as to the origin of this boom.
We turned on the news a little bit later and found out that 3 miles from our neighborhood on the southside of Indianapolis there was an explosion that completely leveled 2 houses and caused damage to 18 other homes.
Everyone on the news was confused and speculating as to what would cause something like this... meth lab, a bomb, plane crash, gas line explosion...
In the morning when we were watching coverage, it was heartbreaking to see all the devastation and hear the heroic stories of neighbors saving each other. 2 lives were lost in the explosion, a husband and wife who lived in one of the houses that was leveled.
As of now, here is what happened... one of the houses that was leveled was up for sale and the owners weren't currently living in it - the furnace was acting up and they had someone out to fix it. They were told it was fixed, but apparently was not. The furnace was leaking gas and building up to the point of explosion. They are doing an investigation into all the facts this homeowner has claimed, and if not true, they can be charged with manslaughter if the house wasn't taken care of properly.
At the end of all this, one of the saddest things is that 2 lives were lost and tons of other surrounding homes are unlivable and they will have to be demolished and rebuilt...
The good news is people are volunteering time, clothing, food, shelter, and money everyday to help out as much as possible.
If you could donate even $5 through the Red Cross website that would help more than you know. Your thoughts and prayers for these families would be just as important.
